Heat treatment is where the magic happens. Our state of the art heat treat oven allows us use and heat treat a variety of steals from carbon to stainless. This process hardens the blade while maintaining just the right amount of flexibility to avoid brittleness. Each knife undergoes a carefully controlled cycle of heating and quenching to transform the steel at a molecular level, ensuring it performs flawlessly under pressure. Following this each blade is tempered down in hardness to achieve the best balance between hardness, edge retention, and durability.

4. Refining the Blade

After heat treatment, the blade moves to the finishing stage. This is where the knife starts to reveal its true beauty. The blade undergoes multiple passes of precision grinding and hand-sanding to refine its profile.

5. Handcrafting the Handle

Wooden Handles

For those who love natural materials, we stabilize all wood in-house. This process enhances the wood’s strength and resistance to moisture while preserving its natural beauty. Our selection includes common hardwoods like Black and Regular walnut, Mapple, Cherry and Hickory. We also use exotic hardwoods like Wenge, Ebony, Mahogony, Ironwood, and Purple Heart to name a few.

Synthetic Handles

At Valli Forge - We are crafting blades for every need. When wooden handles don't fit the customers needs - we have a selection of composite and synthetic handles.

- For Micarta and G10 Handles - Valli Forge leverages the years of experience from Current Composites in East Haven Connecticut. They have been innovators in the space of synthetic handle materials. American made products are the backbone of Valli Forge and its knives.

-For Resin Cast Handles - Valli Forge has its very own in house resin caster. Our very own Justine is a resin casting mad scientist. Keep an eye out for the creations that she makes, listed for sale on our website - or included on your future knife.

6. Creating a Custom Kydex Sheath

Every knife deserves a sheath that offers protection and functionality. At Valli Forge, we take pride in crafting custom .08 Kydex sheaths for each blade. Designed for scout carry, these sheaths ensure that your knife is always secure and accessible when you need it.

The process involves:

Heating the Kydex material to 300 degrees Fahrenheit.

Molding the heated material to the blade using a specialized foam press.

Trimming and finishing the sheath to ensure a snug, secure fit.

The result is a durable, lightweight sheath that perfectly complements your custom knife.

7. Protecting with Valhalla Guard Wax

Every blade that leaves our workshop is treated with our signature Valhalla Guard Wax. This handmade blend of protective wax not only shields your knife from moisture and corrosion but also enhances its appearance, giving the blade a rich, polished finish.
